書道が映える白いポロシャツ / 書道家紫舟氏と

紫舟氏との出会いは、2016年、奈良で開かれた芸術祭に紫舟氏が展示したアート作品「何と無」の制作工程を手伝わせていただいたのが始まりだ。
その作品というのはタテ１7ｍ、ヨコ7ｍという大きな布でできた巨大な立体アート作品だった。

私たちが依頼されたのは、オーガンジーと呼ばれる透け感のある薄い生地を何色も使用し、それぞれの生地を幾何学模様のパズルのように縫い合わせて、１枚の大きな布をつくる、という作業だった。

I first met Shisyu when I assisted him in the production process of his artwork, “What and Nothing,” which he exhibited at an art festival in Nara in 2016.
The work was a huge three-dimensional artwork made of a large piece of cloth measuring 17 meters in length and 7 meters in width.

We were asked to use several colors of organdie, a thin, transparent fabric, and sew each fabric together like a geometric puzzle to create one large piece of fabric.

縫製工場としての社歴は長いが、今まで衣料品しかつくってこなかった工場だ。
この企画の話をいただいたときには何よりもまず、作品の物理的な大さにとまどいがあった。
だが縫製工場としての意地もあり、長年培った縫製技術でなんとか協力できないものかと試行錯誤を繰り返した。

縫製の経験が豊富な弊社のベテラン社員も参画し、作品の完成度や強度などを考慮しつつ縫製できる方法を見つけていった。
そして限られた短い制作期間ではあったが私たちが持つ知恵と技術で、与えられた制作工程を無事に完遂させることができた。

The factory has a long history as a sewing factory, but until now it has only made clothing.
When we were approached about this project, we were first and foremost intimidated by the physical size of the work.
However, as a sewing factory, we were determined and repeated trial and error to see if we could somehow cooperate with the sewing technology we had cultivated over the years.

Our veteran employees with a wealth of sewing experience joined the project and found a way to sew while taking into consideration the degree of perfection and strength of the work.
Although the production period was limited and short, we were able to successfully complete the given production process with our wisdom and skills.

後日、奈良にて作品がお披露目されたときは会場にベテラン社員と一緒に駆け付け、立派に飾られている紫舟氏の偉大な作品を前にしてその制作の一部に携われた嬉しさを共感した。

これを機会に、その後もいろいろと紫舟氏の作品の制作を縫製という切り口で微力ながら手伝わせていただいている。

When the work was unveiled later that day in Nara, I rushed to the venue together with veteran employees and shared the joy of being a part of its creation in front of Sisyu’s great work, which was displayed in a magnificent manner.

This was an opportunity for me to help in various ways with the production of Sisyu’s works, even if it is only in the form of sewing.

さて、今回紫舟氏にsamueでつくらせていただいたのは、伸縮性に富んだスムース素材でつくる作業用の半袖シャツだ。
紫舟氏がイタリアでの作品発表のため、現地にて作品制作の際イタリア人スタッフと一緒に着用したワークウェアだ。

紫舟氏からは、書をイメージできるように白を身生地に使用し、シンプルなデザインのワークウェアをつくりたいとの要望があった。

採用したスムース素材は日本製で、ダブルジャージーとも呼ばれ伸縮性が良いのと、緻密でなめらかな生地感であることが特徴だ。
薄すぎず厚すぎず、着心地をとてもスムースなものにしているところが、”スムース”と呼ばれるゆえんだ。

前立ての部分（裏前立て）には異素材である伸縮性のない織物生地がさりげなく使われていて、着用時の型崩れを防ぐ機能を発揮してくれている。
伸縮性のあるスムース素材と伸縮しない織物生地を縫い合わせるのは難しく、縫製の難易度が高いとされるところだがそこは私たちが培った縫製技術をもってして腕の見せ所でもある。

また衿元にスナップボタンがひとつ手付けされており、スナップボタンを閉じることで上品な着こなしも可能だ。
脇にはスリットが入り、作業時にかがむ姿勢になることも多いため後ろ身側の丈を3ｃｍ長くしたつくりになっている。

創作活動を一緒に行うイタリア人スタッフとの一体感を出すため胸には紫舟氏の書をシルクスクリーンプリントでカスタマイズし、現地のイタリア人スタッフにもこのワークウェアを気に入ってもらえたようだ。

シンプルなデザインでありながら素材の特徴が活かされ着心地も良く、samueの製品アイテムの中でも人気のある代表的なワークウェアだ。

This time, we had Mr. Shisyu create a short-sleeved shirt made of smooth, stretchy material for work use.
This is the workwear that Mr. Shisyu wore with his Italian staff during the production of his works in Italy for the presentation of his works there.

Mr. Shisyu requested a simple workwear design using white as the body fabric to evoke the image of calligraphy.

The smooth material used was made in Japan and is also called “double jersey,” characterized by its good elasticity and dense, smooth texture.
It is neither too thin nor too thick, making it very smooth and comfortable to wear, which is why it is called “smooth.

The front placket (back placket) is made of a different material, a non-stretch woven fabric, which prevents the fabric from losing its shape when worn.
It is difficult to sew together an elastic smooth material and a non-stretchable woven fabric, and it is said to be a difficult sewing process.

A single snap button is hand-attached to the collar, which can be closed for a more elegant look.
There are slits at the sides, and the back of the garment is 3 cm longer than usual, as the wearer is often in a crouching posture when working.

To create a sense of unity with the Italian staff who work together on creative projects, a silkscreen print of Shisyu’s calligraphy was customized on the chest, and the local Italian staff seemed to like this workwear as well.

The simple design and comfort of the material used in this item make it one of samue’s most popular and representative workwear items.
